About the Artist:
Grammy-nominated laouto player and composer Vasilis Kostas presents a special concert celebrating the release of his new album Léna, arriving in April 2026, as part of his U.S. tour. Originally from Epirus, Greece, Kostas is internationally recognized for elevating the laouto (Greek lute) as a leading melodic instrument, connecting Greek musical traditions with contemporary music and the spirit of jazz. A Berklee College of Music alumnus, he is joined on stage by fellow Berklee alumni and longtime collaborators. Leading his trio, Kostas performs with acclaimed musicians Ian Ashby (upright bass) and George Lernis (percussion), alongside special guest and renowned pianist Tom Alexander. The program features original compositions by Kostas bridging contemporary influences and traditional repertoire.
Vasilis Kostas is a Grammy-nominated laouto player, composer, and educator. A graduate of Berklee College of Music’s Global Jazz Institute master’s program, he has performed at renowned concert halls and festivals including Carnegie Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and the London Jazz Festival. He is a recipient of the Forty Under 40 Award from the Greek America Foundation and the Artist Fellowship in the Traditional Arts from the State of Massachusetts, recognizing his contributions to preserving and presenting Greek traditional music across the United States. Kostas teaches the music of Epirus, Greece, at Hellenic College Holy Cross in Boston and tours internationally, presenting his work in concert halls, festivals, and academic institutions.
