Join us for our July Lunchtime Talk as we welcome Peter Manthorpe from TasPorts as he shares his stories of Hobart's port over the years.
About this Event

Peter Manthorpe is a Tug Master with TasPorts in the Port of Hobart, with a maritime career spanning more than four decades. Since going to sea in 1979, he has worked across international shipping, offshore oil and gas, square-rigged sail training, historic replicas and re-enactments, and marine research. A skilled Z-Tech tug operator, he also sailed as Mate aboard Bounty during the 1988 First Fleet re-enactment and took his first skipper role aboard One and All. When he's not working the harbour, he sails his much-loved Huon pine cray boat, Chaparral.

In this Lunchtime Talk, Peter will reflect on a career that has taken him from tall ships to tugboats, tracing the experiences, vessels, and turning points that have defined his life at sea.

This talk will be of interest to maritime enthusiasts, history lovers, and anyone curious about what a working life on the water actually looks like across 40+ years of change in the industry.

The session will conclude with time for questions.

Tuesday 7 July, 12pm. Free to attend. Bookings essential.

Our Lunchtime Talks series is supported by Arts Tasmania.
