About this Event
The archaeological work at Scotland Street began as a straightforward investigation of the development of 18th century domestic housing in the Crofts to 19th century steelworks. During York Archaeology’s investigations, archaeologists were amazed to discover a large quantity of bronze age pottery sealed beneath the 19th century steelworks. This led to a rapid shift in the archaeological investigation methodology, which led to the recovery and analysis of one of the largest assemblages of prehistoric pottery found within the city.
