CONOR EMERY QUARTET
The Tyneside jazz scene is both vibrant and varied. From the concert hall to the intimate pub gig, an ecosystem sustains musicians, established and emerging. Newcastle University’s School of Arts and Cultures plays an important role in pointing undergraduate musicians in the direction of the region’s numerous jam sessions. In recent times Conor Emery wandered in off the street looking to ‘sit-in’ at Newcastle Arts Centre’s long-established jam session. Trombonist Conor duly ‘sat-in’, making an instant impact. Forming his own band (Conor Emery and His ‘Bones - featuring a four-trombone frontline!), Conor became a fixture on the local scene. Graduating in 2024, Conor auditioned for a plum cruise ship job. It came as little surprise when Conor was offered the ‘gig’. Now nearing the end of his second contract as a professional musician with Carnival Cruise Line, Conor is looking forward to making his Lit & Phil debut with his top flight quartet featuring Alix Shepherd (piano), John Pope (bass) and Abbie Finn (drums).
