April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, Poet John M. Starino will be our featured author!John M Starino -- Poet, Author, and Spoken Word Artist -- is from East Haven, Connecticut. He attended Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut where he was very active in the student-run Theatre Workshop. John continued his education at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque NM. His love of poetry grew during that time along with entrepreneurial spirit which continues today.
He has lived in Columbia Midlands for over 40 years. Lexington, SC has become his home. His entrepreneurial endeavors have included hosting numerous Open Mics over the years beginning with Phoenix Tongue in 2005 at the Red Tub on State St. West Columbia. His last Open Mic was with Martha Fore Wise’s White Rose Eclectic on Meeting St West Columbia which ran from 2012 to 2014.
At present John focuses on his Spoken Word Talent as a regular with S/Funday Open Mic at Uncle Fester’s Sport Bar 522 Devine St. Columbia, SC from 3-6pm hosted by Greg Sword. He will be the Feature at this Open Mic during National Poetry Month on April 19, 2026.
In his writings, John has habitually drawn from his past experiences which you will find in his four books of poetry – Onion Season Pt. 1, Onion Season Pt. 2, They Are Only Spoons, and Full Circle. He has recently released a Spoken Word Album and CD entitled Moon Dragon.
Lunch is from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM and John's presentation and book signing will be from 12:30 - 1:30 PM. All attendees are responsible for their own lunch.
