About this Event
LMCC will a hold a Lunch and Learn with host Dr. Edda Fields-Black, author of COMBEE: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid and Black Freedom During the Civil War. Fields-Black is a renowned author mostly known for her extensive knowledge of West African rice farmers. She has written other works such as Deep Roots: Rice Farmers in West Africa and the African Diaspora and is the co-editor of Rice: Global Networks and New Histories. Fields-Black is a descendant of Africans enslaved on the rice plantations in Colleton County, SC. Her ancestors reach back to the Combahee River Raid in the Gullah Geechee culture.
