Skills for Life- Lumra Craftmaking workshop with Helena Stackpoole (2-hour duration )
Lumra is an Irish heritage Craft which originated in the early 1900's. It uses a specialised hook, mesh and raw sheep fleece.
It was created as a solution to the excess wool that farmers were producing, country women would weave the raw fleece to make rugs and other sustainable and hard-wearing household items.
Helena continues in this tradition as all the fleece she uses is procured from local farmers who would otherwise be throwing out the sheep fleece as a useless by product. Helena believes that in bringing back these heritage crafts, we may grow to understand and embrace our ancestors and their knowledge of the natural world.
