Renowned for his lifelong engagement with Chopin’s music, Ludmil Angelov presents an all-Chopin programme exploring the composer’s range — from dance forms to large-scale sonata writing.
The Polonaises, Op. 40 No. 2 and Op. 26 No. 1, reflect two distinct approaches to the Polish national dance: one sombre and inward, the other more expansive and rhetorical. The Nocturne, Op. 15 No. 1, offers lyricism shaped by subtle harmonic colour.
The centre of the programme is the Sonata in B-flat minor, Op. 35 — one of Chopin’s most substantial works, culminating in the well-known Funeral March. Four Mazurkas, Op. 24, return to intimate dance forms rooted in Polish rhythm, while the Scherzo in B-flat minor, Op. 31, concludes the recital with dramatic contrast and virtuosity.
A programme devoted entirely to Chopin, presented by an interpreter closely associated with his music.
