Lucy Kaplansky emerged from the New York folk scene after early years singing in Chicago clubs and performing with artists like Shawn Colvin and Suzanne Vega. After briefly leaving music to earn a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, she returned to recording and touring, releasing a string of acclaimed albums including, Ten Year Night and Every Single Day, both AFIM Best Pop Album winners. She is a founding member of the trio Cry Cry Cry with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell and later formed Red Horse with John Gorka and Eliza Gilkyson. Kaplansky has appeared on major soundtracks, television, and NPR programs, and her most recent releases include Last Days of Summer (2022) and the retrospective collection The Lucy Story (2025).
