Welcome to Lucien Theatre Company's inaugural production of Romeo & Juliet! This production began in a small Brooklyn rehearsal room on October 6th, 2024. One year later, we are thrilled to bring it to our first NYC audience.

Our fresh take on Romeo & Juliet illuminates young voices as they rebel against authority. What are the consequences of trying to control the people you love? Is true love destined to fail in a world full hate? Lucien's groundbreaking reimagining embraces the hilarity of the text, yet also finds itself steeped in the blood of crumbling power structures.
As a company of young artists dedicated to a horizontal, democratic company structure, we are pushing back against the dominant model for making theatre in America. Too often, the divisive nature of our capitalistic society seeps into our industry, and we see diverse voices silenced and competition instilled amongst us. We hear the harsh idea that we are not valuable until we earn our dues. But we will not listen. We will create a different working model that supports us. As Romeo and Juliet push back against the authority in Verona, we push back against the authority that seems to govern our theatre. We see ourselves in these characters. So will you.
Bring your friends, parents, coworkers, even your boss to this production. Bring those that have never seen Shakespeare or never seen devised theatre. We are embarking on a story-telling revolution. Care to join us?
