About this Event
Celebrate a traditional Sankta Lucia
For several years the London Nordic Choir has been bringing this Nordic vocal tradition to the British Isles, and this December we welcome you once again to share with them the iconic Scandinavian celebration of Sankta Lucia, The Festival of Light. The evening promises an authentic atmosphere complete with a candlelit shimmering Luciatåg-procession, alongside much beloved carols and folk tunes from the English tradition.
Program
The evening’s repertoire gives foremost reverence to well loved and quintessential Lucia songs, but also aims to delight audiences with the inclusion of complementary pieces that similarly evoke feelings of hope and wonder on cold Winter nights. Some of these include Phillip Stopford’s arrangement of Lully, Lulla, Lullay which alongside the centrepiece of the evening, Lux Aurumque ‘Light and Gold’, by legendary composer Eric Whitacre blend seamlessly into the atmosphere of the occasion and promise to leave audiences thoroughly entranced. The euphoric joy of Christmas also promises not to be left out in Jonathan Rathbone’s arrangement of Gabriel’s Message, cementing the dynamic program as one to remember!
