A Survivor Self-care Circle for Black Women
About this Event

In LOVED: A Survivor Self-care Circle for Black Women, we address “triple jeopardy;” the exploitation and oppression experienced by survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence who are Black women.

Through thought provoking and creative activities, participants cultivate self-love, beloved community, and strategies to address the root causes of violence. Sessions feature the use of expressive arts (e.g., art journaling, writing, poetry, music, craft making) mindfulness techniques, guided discussions, and facilitations by guest speakers.

MEETS: on Saturdays | 10am to Noon

DATES:

  • September 27, 2025: in person
  • November 22, 2025: virtual
  • January 24, 2026: virtual

ABOUT HopeWorks

HopeWorks is Howard County Maryland’s rape crisis and domestic violence center. We provide direct support to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence (including adult survivors of child sexual abuse). And we work in the community to change the culture that allows these forms of violence to continue.

HopeWorks’ services include crisis shelter, counseling, advocacy, legal resources, survivor leadership & wellness programs, prevention education, professional trainings, community self-care & social justice programs and volunteer opportunities.

THE POWER OF THE ARTS

At HopeWorks, we use the arts in three important ways to accomplish our mission: to support survivors in their healing; as a vehicle to increase awareness; and to imagine creative solutions to bring about social change.

Our arts based programs are made possible by the Howard County Arts Council through a grant from Howard County Government.

PROGRAM ATTENDANCE

The HopeWorks’ Survivor Support, Wellbeing & Education Programs are facilitated through the Community Engagement Department. Please note that these programs are best suited for survivors who are out of crisis and are in a more stable emotional place. Survivors who are facing immediate safety concerns or are still in crisis may not be the best fit for these programs.

IN CRISIS?

Survivors who are in crisis and/or are seeking clinical therapies should call our hotline at (410) 997-2272 or our Main Office at (410) 997-0304 to inquire about the support offered by our Clinical and Advocacy Departments.
