About Love, Rita
A searing tribute to sisterhood and family, profound love and loss, from the acclaimed author of The World According to Fannie Davis.
Bridgett M. Davis tells the story of her beloved older sister Rita, who knew her before she knew herself. Just four years apart in age, the sisters evolved from childhood rivals into best friends, navigating the joys and struggles of Black womanhood together.
Rita was a force—attending Fisk University at sixteen, becoming a car test driver, an amateur belly dancer, earning her MBA, and ultimately serving as a beloved special education teacher. She lived boldly and fearlessly, shaping Bridgett’s understanding of what it meant to truly embrace life.
When Rita’s life was tragically cut short by lupus at forty-four, Bridgett was left with one heartbreaking question: Why Rita? In this stunning memoir, she crafts a brave and beautiful homage—not only celebrating the extraordinary bond of sisterhood but also illuminating what it means to live, love, and die as a Black woman in America.
