Nebraska Wesleyan University’s three choral ensembles lift their voices to sing the Christmas story and to spread the joy of the holiday season in NWU’s annual celebration of Christmas with Wesleyan: Love and Joy Come to You. Audiences will be treated to compelling choral music by diverse composers sung by NWU's University Choir, Unity Choir, and the Gold Standard Singers. The Omaha Skutt Catholic High School Chamber Choir and Lincoln Boys Choir will be featured in the performance as well. Compelling works by Abbie Betinis, Jan Pieterswoon Sweelinck, Moses Hogan, Shawn Kirchner, Andre Thomas, and Rosephanye Powell, alongside excerpts from Ariel Ramierz's Misa Criolla, and Robert Ray's Gospel Mass will be featured on the program. The audience will be invited to sing along in beloved carols accompanied by orchestra and organ, including "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Silent Night," "Joy to the World," and "Go, Tell it on the Mountain." Come to bask in the glow of candlelight as you experience the heavenly music and uplifting message of Christmas with Wesleyan. "It's easy for our students to get lost in the busyness of their schedules and to be carried away with anxiety for all the deep challenges that seem to chase us in this world. Our hope is that the precious time we spend together experiencing Christmas with Wesleyan might remind both our singers and our audiences of what joy feels like, even in the midst of our world's despair...and what love feels like, even in the midst of nations at war. Though music does not cure the problems of the world, it can transform us; it can bring healing and hope to renew us. We hope this program will remind everyone of the love and joy that come to us in this season."
Love and Joy Come to You: Christmas with Wesleyan will be offered on Sunday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, located on the NWU Campus. No tickets are required, and there is no charge for admission. Audiences will have the opportunity to donate to Music at Nebraska Wesleyan University to support the student's 2025 concert tour to Prague, Leipzig, Berlin, and Vienna.
