Lost & Found: Historic Boston in Postcards is a new book by Kathryn S. Alpert that showcases vintage picture postcards of Boston from the early- to mid-20th century. The 206-page softcover book contains more than two-hundred colorful vintage postcards of historic Boston. Each postcard has a caption with historical information about the image.

The book will be launched at World Expo Boston 2026 at Boston’s Convention Center in the Seaport, Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25, 2026. The three-day book sale, which runs from 10 am to 6 pm, will include a postcard show.

In addition to the book sale and postcard show, there will be a special book presentation by Ms. Alpert after which she will sign copies of Lost & Found. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Tuesday May 26th at 11 am in Room 160B, Level One.

Ms. Alpert describes her new publication as long overdue. “It’s been a couple of decades since a book of Boston postcards has been published. In Lost & Found, you can visit our city’s beautiful buildings, parks, and waterfront scenes even if they are no longer standing. Postcard photographers managed to capture these scenes like no one else could.”

In recent years, Ms. Alpert has been working with the Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History. She cofounded the New England Postcard Club in 2023 and has hosted postcard shows at the museum for the last few years. Through the Spellman Museum, she was invited to sell Lost & Found at the Expo.

The World Expo is held in the United States only once every ten years. This year’s event coincides with the nation’s 250th Birthday and is expected to attract thousands of postal history aficionados and Post Office officials from countries across the world.
