Rancho Los Peñasquitos was the first Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County. Presidio comandante Francisco María Ruiz fulfilled the conditions of the grant by building a small adobe structure in 1823. Archaeologists have found remains of that structure within one wing of the existing house.
In addition to the structure, there are animals, a pond, community garden, trails, and restrooms.
