About this Event
You are welcome here, every part of you! Come gather and bask in belonging in authentic community as we acknowledge, grieve, and offer gratitude for our WHOLE selves.
Kim Varner and Emma Heirendt join together offer a grief circle focused on Frances Weller’s 2nd & 4th Gates of Grief: "the places that have not known love" and "what we expected and did not receive". During the circle we will sing, reflect, share, move our bodies, and ritualize bringing ourselves into wholeness.
We carry grief with us every day: grief over lost loved ones or pets, major life transitions, diagnosis, parts of ourselves that hold shame or guilt, world events, climate changes, and cultural loss to name a few forms. As humans, we were born to feel and process our feelings in community, with support of the village at our back for these major life sorrows, but in our modern society we may feel an expectation to do it alone or suppress it. This can lead to anxiety, depression, illness and isolation. Doing this work together allows us to connect our hearts and be witnessed in our deepest depths. It allows us to move this energy and make space for joy, playfulness, and gratitude.
This community space is inspired by the work of Frances Weller (Book the Wild Edge of Sorrow), and from the community grief rituals hosted by many in the Puget Sound Area including Sacred Groves, Laurence Cole, Mary Hart, Northwest Grief Tending (Siena Tenisci), Ahlay Blakely, Peter Jabin, and their teachers including Sobonfu and Malidoma Some.
Pay what you are able - suggested donation of $35-50, but no one turned away for lack of funds.
This circle will take place at Heart Art Studio, and is a community event not sponsored by the studio. This is a non-religious community circle that includes ritual components. If you have any questions or would like additional information please email [email protected].
Water and tea will be available, you may bring anything else you may need to be comfortable. Please arrive by 5:50 so we can start promptly at 6pm.
