About this Event

NOTE: iphone and ipad users,to register for class.

What’s on the Menu:

  • Minced Lamb and Eggplant Noodles
  • Pork and Mushroom-Stuffed Tofu
  • Sweet Vinegar Ribs
Noodles hold the promise of a long life and stuffed tofu represents wealth: This is what you can expect from the symbolic traditional foods of the Lunar New Year. Join guest chef Kwoklyn Wan, author of the new book “Chinese Made Easy,” for a class in which you’ll learn to make three essential dishes of the Lunar New Year—also referred to as Chinese New Year—table. We start with a simple and transformative technique to achieve meltingly tender eggplant. Tossed with lamb, aromatics and an umami-rich homemade sauce and very quickly stir-fried, this is weeknight-friendly Chinese home cooking at its best. As you snack on your longevity noodles, you’ll start marinating a batch of sweet, savory and just-vinegary-enough ribs that represent comfort and indulgence in the year ahead. Finally, you’ll learn why any stuffed or “niang” style dish represents prosperity as you make a batch of tofu packed with pork and mushrooms. This menu proves that a great Lunar New Year spread—and all the good tidings it represents—is completely doable at home.
