Iconic broadcaster and 2005 TSHOF Inductee Verne Lundquist will be the featured guest speaker at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame’s next Lone Star Luncheon, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024 in Waco.Lundquist, whose name was synonymous with college football, March Madness basketball, and the Masters golf tournament for 40 years will share the stories behind his most memorable calls in his storied career that made him a fan favorite.
In his 54-year career Lundquist broadcast more than 20 sports and was the voice of SEC football for 16 years. During his first stint at CBS from 1983 to 1995, he called the NFL and NBA, and was the network's lead figure skating announcer for the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics.
Affectionately called “Uncle Verne” by fans, and the “Golden Throat” by his peers, Lundquist’s infectious laugh and uncanny ability to say exactly what viewers were thinking made him a legend.
Lundquist is the fifth guest in the exclusive TSHOF’s Lone Star Luncheon series, following Lee Trevino, Roger Clemens, the World Champion Texas Rangers, and NFL great Mean Joe Greene.
Tickets for the 11:30 a.m. event are $100, or $700 for a table of 8 seats. Sponsorships and premium tables are also available and will receive an authentic Master pin flag autographed by Verne Lundquist commemorating his 40 years broadcasting that event.
