Join us in the Planetarium for this free talk with Dr. Carrie Filion, Center for Computational Astrophysics. What can our galactic neighborhood tell us about how galaxies form and evolve? We live within the Milky Way galaxy, which is part of a bigger system of galaxies called the Local Group. Local Group archaeology aims to answer big questions about how galaxies work by leveraging the detail, breadth, and depth of observations that are only possible in our home galaxy and in galaxies with the Local Group. This talk will discuss some of the tools of Local Group archaeology and discuss how astronomers use these tools to help better understand galaxy formation and evolution.
