About this Event
LMU Choirs present their Spring Chorale: Our Musical Heritage. The program features works that contribute to the cultural fabric of America, from Appalachian chant, to music from California’s missions, Mexico’s cathedrals, folk music from Estonia and Hungary, African American spirituals, and music from Baroque London and Classical Vienna. Manuel de Sumaya’s “Sol-fa de Pedro” showcases a strategy for winning the chapel master job at Mexico City Cathedral. Veljo Tormis’s, “Lauliku lapsepõli” demonstrates cultural preservation and perseverance through song. With a grand finale (featuring LMU’s String Ensemble!) of Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Te Deum,” the program honors America’s longest surviving choral institution, one that performed at Abraham Lincoln’s memorial service in 1865.
