About this Event
Young people are increasingly expected to play a role in a greener economy, yet many secondary‑aged pupils lack access to the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to understand sustainability and progress into green pathways.
This Green Skills Education Sandbox Event, delivered by Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in partnership with Nature Towns and Cities, brings together key stakeholders and educational partners to explore where current gaps in green skills education sit and how they might be addressed through collaboration.
Nature Towns and Cities is a national initiative supporting places to embed nature, wellbeing and sustainability into everyday life and decision‑making.
The event will be interactive and discussion‑based, creating space for shared learning, honest reflection and early co‑design around this pressing issue for young people and the future of our green economies.
What are green skills?
Green skills include the knowledge, practical skills, values and behaviours that support environmental sustainability and the transition to a low‑carbon future. These range from understanding climate, biodiversity and nature recovery, to transferable skills such as systems thinking, problem‑solving and awareness of green careers and pathways.

- Gaps, challenges, and barriers in curriculum, enrichment, and progression
- The role of schools, employers, and partners in supporting green pathways
- Opportunities for more inclusive, place‑based, and joined‑up approaches
