About this Event
This is a 6-week workshop series, once a week on Thursday afternoons from 1:30pm to 4:00pm EST, from May 30 to July 4, 2024.
Registration priority will be given to those living in Southeastern Ontario. This workshop will be offered via Zoom Meeting.
The Living Well with Diabetes Workshop provides information and teaches skills to help manage your diabetes daily, prevent complications, and live healthier. Gain the confidence and motivation to better manage your symptoms and the challenges of living with diabetes.
This FREE workshop is for adults of all ages living with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes as well as their caregivers and family members. Participants meet online in small groups for 2.5 hours, once a week for 6 weeks, and will also receive a free copy of the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions and the audio file Relaxation for Mind and Body. The workshops are led by two trained leaders who are usually volunteers with diabetes themselves or are close to someone who is.
Participants report improvement in their lifestyle and general health, as well as improved symptom management and better communication with their doctors. They also spend less time in the hospital compared to those who have not taken the workshop.
Classes encourage active participation, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. The workshop will not conflict with existing programs or treatment and is designed to enhance regular treatment.
This workshop is an evidence-based self-management program originally developed at Stanford University and currently supported by the Self-Management Resource Center
