Gardening has long been considered therapeutic for people experiencing mental illness, mental distress and other mental health conditions. Therapeutic gardening highlights the role of nature in enhancing health and wellbeing - learning to grow your own food encourages awareness of diet and nutrition and, as a result, promotes the choice of healthy foods as part of your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing journey. Involvement in community gardens increases social and local community interaction, helping to reduce isolation and loneliness.
