Living Lightly Utsav 2025

Living Lightly Utsav a traveling pastoral exhibition and cultural festival is being held from February 1 to 16 2025 at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) Bengaluru.


Organized by the Centre for Pastoralism and Sahjeevan and co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and IGNCA the event highlights the traditions ecological knowledge and resilience of India’s pastoral communities with a focus on the Deccan region’s diverse pastoral cultures and ecologies.


The festival features 18 curated exhibition sections designed by renowned artists and pastoral artisans alongside immersive exhibits live performances workshops and expert discussions.


February 13 2024 : Join Shilpa Mudbi a passionate singer and researcher for an authentic workshop exploring the folk vocal traditions of North Karnataka. Dedicated to preserving Karnataka's folk arts Shilpa has curated a collection of pastoral songs which she'll share through a unique music installation. In this interactive session Shilpa along with other accompanying artists will guide you through the techniques of folk singing offering a deep dive into the region’s musical heritage. Whether you're a beginner or a music enthusiast this workshop is an opportunity to connect with Karnataka’s vibrant vocal traditions.


February 14 2024: Thinayiruppu- A Musical Offering of Sangham Poetry:

This musical rendition of Sangam poetry invites us to immerse in the inner landscape of herders and shepherds echoing their love and life across the Mullai forests and Pallai semi-arid lands of the Deccan.


A Mangai is a distinguished Chennai-based scholar theatre practitioner and director of the Marappachi group. Known for her contributions to Tamil theatre and gender studies she has authored Acting Up: On Gender and Theatre in India from 1979 and taught at various institutions across the country.


Bindhumalini is an acclaimed Indian singer composer and graphic designer renowned for her powerful vocals in Tamil Hindi and Kannada cinema. A recipient of the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer (2018) and the Filmfare Award (2019) she has made significant contributions to music in both film and independent albums.
