Living Large is an animated stop-motion film created as a Czech-Slovak-French co-production. The film has won an award at the prestigious Annecy Animation Festival, was nominated for Best Film at the European Film Awards, and is representing the Czech Republic in the race for an Oscar in the Best Animated Feature category.
The event will be followed by a Q&A session with producer Matěj Chlupáček.
Synopsis: 12-year-old Ben is entering puberty, and suddenly his weight becomes an issue – both for him and everyone around him. His peers bully him, his divorced parents are at a loss for how to help, and even the school nurse is concerned. Despite his love for food and his growing talent as a chef, Ben decides to take drastic action: he starts dieting, hoping it will turn his life around. Perhaps it will even win the heart of Klára, the girl of his dreams... In the end, Ben will discover that what truly matters isn’t how you look, but how you feel.
Matěj Chlupáček (*1994) is a film director and producer who made his debut as a young European director with Touchless in 2013. In 2021, he won a Czech Lion Award for his film Rats (Zrádci). The film, inspired by the true story of intersex individuals in the 1930s, explores their lives shortly before the war upended everything. We Have Never Been Modern was also nominated for 12 Czech Lion Awards. This year, he directed two series: Daughter of the Nation and We’re On It, Comrades!.
