Step into the parlor of the Shelton-McMurphy-Johnson House for a rare, hands-on look at the intricate art of Victorian hairwork. Material culture historian and artist Diane Irby will be demonstrating the delicate technique of wirework - transforming hair into exquisite floral forms just as women did in the 19th century.Guests are invited to observe the process and, if time permits, may get the chance to try their hand at the craft and even take home a small hair flower. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and engage in conversation during the demonstration to learn more about the history and process.
Join us to experience the fascinating beauty of this traditional 19th-century parlor art in our historic setting.
A donation to the museum would be greatly appreciated!
