The Living History Project offers an exciting and innovative collaboration with York Cemetery Trust, giving Year 9 students at Fulford School a unique opportunity to explore the past through performance.
Aimed at those considering GCSE Drama, this extracurricular programme begins with a guided tour of York Cemetery led by volunteer genealogists from the Friends of York Cemetery, who bring to life the stories of individuals buried there.
These real-life histories become the inspiration for students’ own creative responses, encouraging them to engage deeply with local heritage.
Working independently, students devise original drama or music pieces based on their chosen historical figure, blending factual research with imaginative interpretation.
The project culminates in a captivating piece of promenade theatre, where audiences are guided through the cemetery as students perform, reimagining and reviving the lives of those once laid to rest there. The result is a powerful and immersive experience that connects past and present in a truly memorable way.
