About this Event
Join us to hear from Jordyn Zimmerman on her lived experience using Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) to communicate. Diagnosed as autistic at a young age, Jordyn did not receive access to AAC until the age of 18.
Her story is featured in the documentary This Is Not About Me. Today, Jordyn speaks around the world, contributes to projects on accessibility, and shares her insights in publications such as The Boston Globe, The New York Times, and The 19th.
Named to the inaugural 2025 Forbes Accessibility 100 List, Jordyn also serves as Board Chair of the national nonprofit CommunicationFIRST, is an Apple Distinguished Educator, and was a two-time appointee to the United States President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Her vision is clear: to ensure that every learner has access to effective communication and the right to truly inclusive communities.
This is a unique opportunity to learn directly from someone with lived experience using AAC. Jordyn offers a powerful first-hand account of what it means to navigate the world as an AAC user not just to communicate, but to lead, advocate, and participate in everyday life.
As a respected mentor and voice in the disability and AAC communities, Jordyn’s story provides invaluable insight into the real-world impact of communication access. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of what inclusive communication truly looks like from someone who lives it every day.
