DESCRIPTION
The LATTER HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY IN JAPAN was a tumultuous era. Japanese people, accustomed to more than 200 years of national isolation, were stunned by the intimidating appearance of four gigantic black warships led by US COMMODORE PERRY in Tokyo Bay in 1953. This event triggered the end of Japan’s long isolation and, subsequently, THE END OF THE SAMURAI CLASS’S 700-YEAR RULE over Japan. In this live tour, we will WALK THROUGH MODERN YOKOHAMA, the place WHERE THIS CRUCIAL HISTORICAL EVENT BEGAN, and introduce this dramatic transition and the rapid adoption of Western culture that followed.
