Instructors:
Kera Magarill is trained in classical cello, music therapy and improvisational singing and she loves community music-making. She has led “Choir for the Tone Deaf”, a program for community singing for the Denver Public Libraries and she was the creative director for “The Dementors: An Alzheimer’s Association Band”. She currently works for Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services in Older Adult Behavioral Health and is deeply interested in the relationship between music and mood.
Michelle Garratt’s vocal background includes 10 years of choirs, 8 years of professional band performance, and college level vocal training in addition to teaching voice and movement for 10 years. Michelle continues to sing and teach since her own diagnosis of PD because she knows the importance of keeping the joy of music alive while exercising her vocal cords. Michelle had the privilege of learning some wonderful teaching techniques specific to people with PD this year from Judi Spencer at the World Parkinson’s Congress in Kyoto, Japan. Michelle encourages us to make a joyful noise.
Jill Williams is a social worker with Multnomah County. She has been playing guitar since college and is mostly self taught. Jill enjoys singing and playing in small groups with other acoustic players, at open mics and back yard parties. Her musical interests are diverse with a heavy emphasis on 70's-80's rock, pop and folk music. She also loves Americana and good ole country music. Her friends call her "B-side" because of her tendency to pick deep cuts and lesser know songs from popular bands! Jill has enjoyed getting to know the gang from PRO and is looking forward to the day when she can sit in a song circle with all of you.
