Summer and Live Music Thursdays at Nelson go hand in hand — and we're thrilled to say they're back! Pull up a chair, bring your favorite people, and join us for a free outdoor concert series all season long.Starting out in mid-80s Detroit music scene, Ash Can Van Gogh honed their songwriting and live performance at Midtown Cafe, Alvin's, Jukebox, and other legendary venues. The band has received multiple Metro Times Music Awards for Band Deserving Wider Recognition, Best Folk Band, Best Instrumentalist, Best Acoustic Artist – which goes to show the difficulty in pinning down their musical style. While you’re here, be sure to check out our current gallery exhibition: “Relatives You Didn't Know You Had" by Jane Rosemont.
Collage, unlike artist Jane Rosemont’s work in photography and filmmaking, is immediate, spontaneous, and tactile. Her process begins with nothing but the urge to create, without concern for the outcome. As the fragments start to cohere, they often — almost inevitably — become a human face or form. Enjoy a drink from the social district and a meal or snack from one of our restaurant neighbors and you’ve got the perfect summer evening, right here in Downtown Lansing!
Metered street parking is available on Washington Square. Nelson Gallery is also within walking distance to the North Grand Ramp.
