About this Event
Experience the magic of Abella, an audio-musical masterpiece by Emmy-nominated actress and singer Parris Lane. This groundbreaking work tells the gripping story of Abellamae, a young enslaved girl whose extraordinary gift of song becomes her strength, her salvation, and her beacon of hope for liberation. Through melodic storytelling and an emotional narrative, Abella sheds light on the resilience of the human spirit amidst the darkest of times.
The listening room experience will feature selections from Abella, narrated and performed by Parris Lane herself, whose commanding voice brings to life a story of strength, courage, and triumph. From poignant moments of struggle to joyous acts of defiance, every chapter is underscored by an unforgettable blend of spoken word and music that will transport you to another time.
As Chris Haley, nephew of Alex Haley (author of Roots), historian, and descendant of Kunta Kinte, said:
“When you hear the first melodious tones in the audio version of Lane’s book, Abella, you might find yourself breathless. The mixture of her smooth voice floating aloft animated sounds of animals, wind, and people entices you to enter a place and time you’ve been curious to explore.”
Another testimonial states:
“This is an awesome book that will captivate you. I would compare this book to Roots. Once you start, you will not want to stop, because you and Abella have to see where her life is going. You will not be disappointed!”
