We are delighted to welcome Stuart Henderson and Karen Sharp to our humble Pathworks stage with their acclaimed project Partners in Time — a celebration of one of jazz’s most enduring and exciting traditions: the trumpet and saxophone partnership.
At the heart of this music is musical conversation — the spark that flies when two strong voices meet on the frontline. From the earliest days of bebop through hard bop and beyond, classic pairings such as Miles Davis & John Coltrane, Clifford Brown & Harold Land, Chet Baker & Gerry Mulligan shaped the sound of modern jazz. Partners in Timebrings this rich heritage vividly to life, not as a museum piece, but as living, breathing music performed with freshness, respect and joy.
Stuart Henderson and Karen Sharp share an easy, natural musical chemistry, built on years of experience at the very top of the UK jazz scene. Henderson’s lyrical, warm-toned trumpet and flugelhorn lines intertwine beautifully with Sharp’s powerful, melodic tenor and baritone saxophone voices, creating music that swings hard, sings deeply and leaves plenty of room for spontaneous interplay. Their exchanges are full of wit, elegance and genuine jazz dialogue — the very essence of the tradition they honour.
With the elegant piano of Leon Greening, the solid, swinging foundation of Stuart Barker on bass, and the driving, responsive drumming of Alfonso Vitale, the rhythm section provides the perfect platform for this frontline partnership to shine.
This promises to be a great evening at Twickenham Jazz Club: relaxed, swinging, and rich with history, yet alive with the excitement of the moment. Whether you are a devoted jazz listener or discovering this music afresh, Partners in Timeoffers warmth, energy and a wonderful sense of connection — between musicians, music and audience.
Join us for a night of timeless jazz, true musical partnership, and the unmistakable magic that happens when great players share the bandstand.
Very best Wishes,
Lesley Christiane
