Talking Story with Pidgin Writer Lee A. Tonouchi

On Thursday, June 4 at 6 p.m., Russell Subiono and Lee Tonouchi going talk about small kid time growing up in Hawai‘i speaking Pidgin a.k.a. Hawai‘i Creole. Braddah Lee going share several of his Pidgin pieces, both poetry and prose, an'den he going tell da secret origin on how he came for be known as "Da Pidgin Guerrilla."
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Lee A. Tonouchi stay Hawai‘i's Poet Laureate. His Pidgin poetry collection Significant Moments in da Life of Oriental Faddah and Son wen go win da Association for Asian American Studies Book Award. He won planny prizes for his Pidgin plays and Pidgin short stories too. One pretty trippy ting he did late last year wuz he got invited for perform his Okinawan grandma story for The Moth at one sold out show at da Hawai‘i Theatre.
Lee will be joined by Russell Subiono, HPRʻs Vice President of Programming and Content Development and host of the HPR podcasts "This Is Our Hawaiʻi" and "Feathers and Fire."

Live from the Atherton series begin at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Doors open thirty minutes before the show starts.
This event will be filmed, recorded and photographed. Your presence constitutes your release of all rights to your recorded voice and image, which may be used in projects by Hawaiʻi Public Radio.
Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis — advance ticket purchase or reservation is strongly suggested.
Ticket Policy: Ticket sales are final. Sorry, no refunds.
Parking: Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood (metered parking is free after 6 p.m.).
