Featuring Antara Winds: Diane Smith, flute; Judith Ricker, oboe; Margaret (Peggy) Quackenbush, clarinet; Blaire Koerner, bassoon; and W. Peter Kurau, horn.Founded in 1982, Antara Winds have appeared regularly on Live from Hochstein and have performed extensively throughout the Greater Rochester area including appearances with the Rochester Oratorio Society, Perinton Concert Band, and Society for Chamber Music in Rochester.
This program features dance music representing different time periods and countries, including the charming Dance Suite by Eastman alum Paul Valjean – which Antara Winds recorded in 2008 – as well as selections from Bill Douglas’s rhythmic Suite Cantabile and Henri Tomasi’s exciting "Cinq Danses (Profanes et Sacrées)."
Antara Winds delights in bringing audiences the music of contemporary composers. They have premiered two works written specifically for Antara: Verne Reynolds’ Antara Music (2003) and Libby Larsen’s Blue Windows: After Marc Chagall (2005).
The Hochstein School’s free noontime Live from Hochstein concert series will be hosted by WXXI Classical’s Mona Seghatoleslami and broadcast live. Listen to the concert on WXXI Classical at 91.5 FM, 90.3 FM, or online at https://www.wxxiclassical.org. Listen to an encore broadcast on WXXI Classical 91.5 FM at 10:00 pm the day of the concert.
