Natalie Nowytski is an award-winning composer, vocal alchemist, and sound healer who opens portals into ancestry and language. With more than 50 cultures’ music in her repertoire and a composer's sonic palette deeply rooted in her Ukrainian heritage, she creates genre-blending music that defies easy categorization. Her superpower? Eastern European vocal techniques—a skill honed through a lifetime of global music study. She's equally at home performing a traditional Balkan folk song, composing for a modern dance piece, or collaborating with cutting-edge musicians across genres. Natalie has received composition and performance awards from the McKnight Foundation, Jerome Foundation, American Composers Forum, SAGE Awards, and Minnesota State Arts Board. Find her music on Bandcamp. Website: natalienmusic.com.
Anna Johnson is a performer, composer, and visual artist who creates multisensory experiences. Her work joins personal with mythical and contemporary with ancient. Based in drone and hypnotic repetition, Anna’s devotional sonic landscapes layer textural explorations of voice and electroacoustic instrumentation into a music approaching experimental pop, ambient choral, and psychedelic neomedieval folk. Her performances regularly feature cinematic projections of surreal, fantastical environments made from manipulated light and shadow. In creating for both stage and screen, she is guided by the emergent, alchemical conversations that open between sound and image when they are brought together. She relies on improvisation and works site-responsively, with a fluid sense of embodied time, in pursuit of newly vulnerable emotional, spiritual, and social realities. Live at the Carnegie is a Saturday listening series, curated by Liz Draper. Performances are open to the public and free to attend. Donations to the artists and the Carnegie are encouraged.
