Little School of Salmon - Children's Workshop Ages 3-8

Creating Capes and Crowns to represent our Salmon Species

This workshop is for children 3-8 and their parents/guardians Only.

Led by Beck Pittman

This workshop will guide children and their adults to make salmon tail capes and salmon headbands.

For the Procession, particpants can gather together and march as a school of fish.

For accompaning Adults - discussion of being kelp or eel grass to complement the school.

This workshop will help you develop your costume for the Ancortes Procession of the Species. On Saturday, April 26, 2025 Procession of the Species Anacortes plans to host it's third annual parade in downtown Anacortes as a part of the Anacortes Earth Day Celebration. Procession of the Species (POTS) is a celebration of community and the natural world, incorporating music, art and dance into the event. Parade participants of all ages dress up in creative costumes representing animals, plants and other ecosystem elements.

Explore ways to express and renew your spirt and passion for this beautiful planet and the web of life.

• Our workshops are require registration. There is a registration fee of $5
• This workshop is limited to 15 Participants.
• Under 15 requires an adult.
• Please bring a bed sheet to be dyed and altered into the salmon tail.
• We will provide all additional supplies
• Space and materials will be available to allow time to complete costumes post workshop at Buxton's - Open studio time: Wednesdays at Buxton’s 5-7 pm. Space and materials will be available to allow time to complete costumes post workshop. March 26, April 2, 9, 16, 23.

The Procession of the Species originated in 1995 in Olympia, WA, to celebrate Earth Day. Since that time communities throughout the Puget Sound area and Cascadia Bioregion have held Processions to honor the flora and fauna of the natural world. The Anacortes Procession of the Species has been an annual event bringing nature lovers together since 2021. Associated workshops leading up to the event offer participants inspiration and guidance to create their own costumes and props.
