About this Event

Lithogen Inc. presents TEM and ERT Geophysical Primer, a course developed by Lithogen Inc. with material support from Geodevice. This half day short course will teach attendees the fundamentals of prospecting with magnetometers. Although the method is used in mineral exploration, archaeology, debris mapping, and more, the focus of this course will be on prospecting for mineral exploration.
The course will cover about two hours of basic theory and survey design considerations, then we will spend one hour hands-on with some Geodevice magnetometers. Finally, we will process some real magnetometer data collected previously with this equipment.
The course is designed for students who are technically competent in fields such as: geosciences, soil sciences, civil engineering, or environemental sceinces. A certificate will be provided after the course so that students can apply this towards continuing professional development hours.
The course agenda:
Day 1 (1pm-5pm, coffee provided)
- Basic magnetic theory
- Diurnal corrections
- Survey design and parameters
- Hands on with equipment
- Processing data with QGIS
- Case studies and discussion
QGIS is a free, open source software package used to make maps. We will use it for data processing. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop and have QGIS pre-installed if they wish to follow along.
Depending on the total number of attendees, this course may be taught in Lithogen's warehouse at 576 Roseberry St., Winnipeg, or in an adjacent building.
If you are a geophysics student (or similar) and wish to take this course, please contact us via email for sponsorship options.
We welcome attendees from the Central Canada Mineral Exploration Convention, Nov 3&4. Join Lithogen at Torque Brewery Nov 3rd for Mining4Beer (reach out for an invite).
