Litfest is delighted to launch Jacqueline Harris’s new adventure with Marjan Wouda.Lancashire Folktales is a collection of folktales re-imagined by Jacqueline Harris and illustrated by the artist Marjan Wouda.
All the tales in the book are rooted in the Lancashire landscape, reflecting its geology, geography, diversity and the lives lived there. The themes and meaning that come through these retellings speak to current concerns about kindness, inclusivity, understanding and the importance of the natural world and our relationship to it. Complete with detailed notes and sources, a map of locations, an introductory essay on the nature of folktale transmission and twelve illustrative lino-cut plates by the Dutch artist Marjan Wouda, Lancashire Folktales is a beautiful creation.
Jacqueline will read from the collection and Marjan will be showcasing her artwork throughout the event. Books and lino-cuts will be available for sale afterwards.
Jacqueline Harris is a Lancashire-based storyteller, writer and theatre maker. She often collaborates with other artists, musicians and filmmakers to experiment with new ways of telling stories through performance, publishing, installations and exhibitions. Marjan Wouda is a Dutch-born, Lancashire-based sculptor and ‘drawer’ of international renown. Her work often starts with a story; while usually featuring animals. she is passionate about exploring the human predicament in a way that is thought-provoking. She loves the adventure of the making process, exploring materials playfully and allowing them their voice.
