Franzen, award-winning author of “The Corrections,” “Freedom,” and “Purity,” is celebrated for his insights into American life, essays in The New Yorker, Harper’s, and The Guardian, and novels that have become modern classics. "The Corrections" won the National Book Award and has been translated into 40 languages. Freedom was hailed as “a masterpiece of American fiction” and earned a spot on The New York Times 10 Best Books of 2010. His current project, “A Key to All Mythologies,” explores American culture from the 1960s to today.
Franzen’s work also spans nonfiction, translation, journalism, and environmental advocacy, including his documentary “Emptying the Skies,” focused on protecting songbirds. He has received numerous literary and environmental awards and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
For more than 20 years, Literary Voices® has brought nationally recognized authors to Oklahoma City while raising vital funds for the Library Endowment Trust. Proceeds support library programs, outreach services, scholarships, and initiatives like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children across Oklahoma County. During the event, we’ll also honor community members with the Lee B. Brawner Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to libraries and literacy.
