Join us at the Granville Center for the Arts for our next Literary & Reading Club on Saturday, December 7, at 1:00 pm for an optional double-reader!We'll be discussing a fiction novel, Long Island Compromise by Taffy Brodesser-Akner—a sharp, funny, and deeply human novel about a family shaped by one unforgettable event, and all the complicated, loving, messy ways people try to move forward. We’ll talk about legacy, privilege, survival, and the strange stories families tell themselves to stay stitched together.
We’ll use the book as a springboard to chat about identity, memory, and how a single moment can ripple through generations—perfect for readers who love character-driven fiction and great conversation.
Optional Nonfiction Book:
For those who like to pair fiction with some nonfiction, we’ll also have an optional discussion of The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee. It’s a beautifully written exploration of how our genetic code shapes who we are—scientifically, culturally, and ethically. We’ll touch on how this connects to family, inheritance, and what we pass down (on purpose or not), tying it back to themes in the novel.
Come and enjoy the lively discussion, complete with refreshments. We encourage you to read the book before our meetup, but it's not required.
Need a copy of the book? Pick up your copy at the Readers' Garden Bookstore at 115 N Prospect St, Granville, OH 43023.
