About this Event

This Listening Circle is part of a monthly series of ten sessions exploring themes around mental health, wellbeing, identity, and community.
This month for our third listening circle, join us as we unpack the gender roles and expectations we’ve grown up with in our families and communities

We’re often handed a script early on. How to behave. How to speak. Who to prioritise. What not to question. This session invites us to pause and ask which roles still serve us and which ones we’ve simply been carrying out of habit.

The session offers a calm, facilitated space for shared reflection and conversation. The focus is on listening rather than fixing, and on creating an environment that feels respectful, held, and supportive.

Listening Circles are not therapy, support groups, or debates. They are intentional spaces for people to come together, listen deeply, and share experiences if and when they wish.

About the Project

The South Asian Listening Circles are a Manchester-based project funded by The National Lottery through Awards for All. The circles create safe, community-led spaces for honest dialogue on themes such as identity, belonging, family, gender, faith, culture, and wellbeing. Find out more here: https://southasianheritage.org.uk/south-asian-listening-circles/

How the space is held
  • Guided by trained facilitators
  • Listening-centred, not solution-focused
  • Silence and pauses are welcomed
  • Confidential and non-judgemental
  • Grounded in care, choice, and trust

There is no expectation to speak. Attending to listen is equally welcome.

  • Gentle, facilitated conversation
  • Clear structure and guidance throughout
  • Space for reflection and connection
  • Community-led approach

The session will run for approximately 2.5 hours, including breaks.
