Listening is a shared act that connects us to one another. Inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s writings on mutuality and the gift economy, Laura’s concerts “Listen, also” and “Listen, beyond,” draw on Kimmerer’s belief that communities grow stronger through acts of generosity, attention, and reciprocity. The concerts reflect Kimmerer’s idea that shared attention can be a form of giving, creating a small, reciprocal exchange between performers and listeners. The concerts provide safe, welcoming spaces for audiences to slow down, notice one another, and listen together at a time when many people feel disconnected, overloaded by technology, and divided by public discourse, hoping to serve as a reminder of how we can support one another.
