Make Your Own Yokai
Linocut Workshop with Makoto Chi
Saturday, October 25, 2025 · 2–4pm | Sliding scale $10–$30 | Ages 18+
It's that time of year: shorter days, longer nights, and who-knows-what lurking in the shadows. Join artist, Makoto Chi, at SUM gallery for a hands-on linocut workshop where you’ll carve and print your own yokai — the mischievous spirits, shape-shifters, and “auspicious beasts” of Japanese folklore—or really, any other monster of your choosing! Inspired by Chi’s exhibition, An Auspicious Beast, this afternoon invites participants to channel their inner demons, explore myth and queerness through art-making, and take home an original print of their creation.
All materials (linocutters, paper, ink, and more) are provided, and no experience is necessary—just bring your imagination. Workshop registration is sliding scale ($10–$30), with proceeds benefiting the Drug User Liberation Front (DULF). Presented in partnership with Powell Street Festival Society.
Spaces are limited—summon your spirit and reserve your spot today!
