Lindy Hop is a partnered swing dance which originated in Harlem, New York in the 1920's - 40's. It was created by black communities in dance halls like the Savoy Ballroom and around bands like Chick Webb, Count Basie and Benny Goodman. It's now danced all over the world.
Social dancing is when people dance together for fun and connection, not performance. It’s improvised partner dancing with the focus on enjoying the music and the moment. You don’t need to bring a partner, people typically swap throughout the event and it's about having a good time, not dancing perfectly.
Lindy Hop Auckland is a group dedicated to sharing the joy of swing dancing in Tāmaki Makaurau. They organise social dances, performances and community events to promote Lindy Hop and teach beginner dance classes every Tuesday night at 7pm in Mount Albert.
