Hosted by Negus Adeyemi, join us for an intimate night featuring Brooklyn's most talented local poets & performers:

  • Empress Poetry: weaving words into powerful storytelling of self-discovery and empowerment
  • Ras Osagyefo: sharing truths through the rhythm of poetry
  • Keisha-Gaye Anderson: captivating audiences with her lyrical words

Local bites + sips from Spiribam will be served, carefully curated to delight your senses.

Little Caribbean (EST 2017) is home to the largest and most diverse Caribbean-American-LatinX community outside of the West Indies, making up 20% of New York City. Recently named one of 2024’s coolest neighborhoods in the world by Time Out magazine, this thriving community is a hub for Caribbean/Black-owned businesses, cultural expression, and community development. Since 2010, I AM CARIBBEING has amplified this community's voice and will continue to commemorate the history of the Caribbean Diaspora in New York City & beyond.

Negus Adeyemi

Info: Negus Adeyemi is an African-Caribbean-American writer, born in the borough of Brooklyn by parents from the island of Barbados. While moving to New Jersey at a young age and living there until he was a young man, he has returned back to Brooklyn as an adult. With the fortune of his father being a calypsonian and folk musician, he literally grew up around storytelling and performing.


Empress Poetry

Info: Empress Poetry is an International Performance Artist, Author, Poetic Activist, and Motivational Speaker from Barbados, living in Brooklyn, NY. Her work weaves powerful narratives that inspire self-discovery, empowerment, and healing. Through her creative writing and performance poetry, Empress reaches diverse audiences with messages of transformation and hope. As a mentor and community leader, Empress has curated and led various initiatives, including the Young Kings Young Queens Rising Youth Enrichment Initiative and the One Love Art & Culture Scholarship Awards Show.
Empress is passionate about fostering creativity and resilience in young people and marginalized communities. She is a self-published author and offers programs that empower individuals to share their voices and stories.


Ras Osagyefo

Info: Ras Osagyefo is a Jamaican born poet who never gives a straight answer because he believes there are no straight answers in life. His words are filled with sound and power, the raw creative energy of the universe. One doesn't just hear Ras Osagyefo, one feels him. He has performed all over the world from Africa to Jamaica, Switzerland to England. He is the author of a book of poems titled Psalms of Osagyefo Chanting Down Babylon. He was the winner of London's Farrago Poetry Society best performance poet award in 2002. In a Billboard magazine review of a True Mystic Crew album on which Osagyefo soloed on two tracks, Elena Oumano wrote, "Osagyefo spit fiery rhymes." Osagyefo has also performed for the Harvard School of Divinity Lecture series, "Kingdom Rise Kingdom Fall". He presently resides in Brooklyn from where he watches the world as it goes around in cycles.


Keisha-Gaye Anderson

Info: Keisha-Gaye Anderson is a Jamaican-born poet, writer, visual artist, and communications consultant based in Brooklyn, NY. She is the author of three poetry collections--Gathering the Waters (Jamii Publishing 2014), Everything Is Necessary (Willow Books 2019), and A Spell for Living (Agape Editions 2020), which received the Agape Editions' Editors’ Choice Award and BIBA (Best Indie Book) Award in 2024. Her poetry, essays and fiction have been widely anthologized in literary magazines and anthologies. Her art has been featured in multiple exhibitions at venues like Weeksville Heritage Center, Five Myles Gallery, Restoration Plaza, and Carter Burden Gallery, and has been featured in publications like Caribbean Writer, The Mom Egg Review, Langston Hughes Review, and others. Keisha is also an educator and workshop leader for The City University of New York, Poets House, and other organizations. She has received grants and/or fellowships from the NY Council on the Arts, NY Foundation for the
