About this Event
Join us for an intimate evening with Dr. Maddox, Associate Professor at Fordham University and Historian of the African Diaspora and Caribbean Immigration, as she discusses her book, “A Home Away From Home”, a powerful piece that examines the significance of mutual aid societies to the Caribbean American immigrant experience in the 20th century. These societies, for example, the Harlem Tenants League, provided various forms of support, fostered a shared West Indian identity, and strengthened connection with those “back home.” Dr. Maddox recenters the many roles Caribbean immigrant institutions played in establishing and linking the Caribbean community in NYC and abroad.
You’ll have the opportunity to listen to a captivating reading by the author, who will share their personal insights; participate in engaging discussion facilitated by our moderator, Kimberly Williams, and get your book signed by the author.
Local bites + sips from Little Caribbean will be served. Come for the reading, stay for the vibes!
All are welcome! Mark your calendars 📅 & Lime @1399 with us!
