Sur NYC is honored to host a special screening of Daisy, a deeply personal short documentary by award-winning filmmaker and photographer Catalina Kulczar. This moving film weaves together themes of grief, intergenerational trauma, and self-discovery through the lens of open-water swimming and a search for ancestral identity.

Following the loss of her mother to suicide, Kulczar embarks on a journey to explore her Jewish lineage and her family's immigration history, tracing their roots back to 1940s Hungary. Daisy is a poetic meditation on healing, memory, and the ways we navigate personal and inherited loss.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Catalina Kulczar and special guests, where we will explore the themes of the film, the role of storytelling in processing grief, and the intersections of personal history, memory, and art.

is a Hungarian-Venezuelan filmmaker and photographer based in New York City. Her work is courageous and deeply connected, often examining women's roles in contemporary society. She has been published in The New York Times and C41, among other international publications, and has made portraits of cultural icons such as David Byrne, St. Vincent, and Oscar Isaac.

As a cinematographer and director, Catalina has worked on numerous acclaimed short films, including Lindsay, Lindsey, Lyndsay (2022), Can Love Hate (2022), Garúa (2023), and the upcoming documentary Bola!.

Sur NYC is a creative space shared by illustrator and design studio. Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Gowanus in Brooklyn, NY, our space serves as a hub for creativity and artistic expression.
