The music of Lil Red and Big Bad is unique to New Orleans, a mix of Blues, R&B and Rock & Roll delivered with a lot of soul, and it’s no mistake that this band became the winners of the 2010 New Orleans Voodoo Blues Krewe Challenge, sending them to the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
Introducing herself as Lil Red - nicknamed by her father due to her diminutive size and flaming red hair - she has a larger than life voice and a commanding presence, captivating all within earshot. Singing, wailing and crying her way
through a wondrous roller coaster ride of obscure R&B songs, she leads her audience through the unfamiliar back alleys of forgotten music history.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Nancy Gros is not only a gifted performer and singer, but a serious student of music as well. Introducing many of her shows with songs that anyone might naturally assume is hers, but is not. She
has clearly done her homework with a typical set list strewn with a fascinating array of equally powerful, little known songs transformed and made into her very own, together with a mix of originals, confirming a truly unique talent.
Nancy goes solo, no Ikettes or frills, pulling it off with nothing but the strength of her powerful performance and exuberant personality, backed by a strictly professional and solid sound, Jeff “Big Daddy” Ruello on guitar, Kennan Shaw
on bass, Alain Baudry on drums, and Thad Scott on Saxophone. Ever since the summer of 2011, the band has performed every week on
Frenchman Street, as well as other clubs around New Orleans and the French Quarter. She has toured Colorado, as well as opening the 2012 French Quarter Festival on the main stage. Other recent performances include the Bogalusa Blues Festival, New Orleans Blues & BBQ Fest, Voice of the Wetlands Fest, Wednesdays at the Point, the Louisiana State Fair, and annually on the Steamboat Natchez for New Year’s Eve.
“It’s never too late to fulfill your dreams”, says Red “and there’s nothing like singin the blues…
